William Edgar Cantelon understood that what is here today may be gone tomorrow and his curiosity was endless. He recognized the value of the everyday. As an avid historian and a prolific Norfolk County artist, Cantelon painted portraits, flora and fauna, landscapes, and historical landmarks in an effort to preserve Norfolk County’s cultural and natural heritage.
Launched in celebration of May is Museum Month, this Norfolk County Heritage & Culture Department exhibition highlights local historian and artist William Edgar Cantelon (b. 28/03/1866 – d. 04/03/1950). A sampling of the work produced over Cantelon’s prolific career, his reference photographs, and a few personal artifacts will be on exhibit at each of Norfolk County’s three museums – Delhi Tobacco Museum & Heritage Centre, Port Dover Harbour Museum, and Waterford Heritage & Agricultural Museum – and at the Norfolk County Archives.
Be sure to stop by the Norfolk County Archives to explore the beauty of Norfolk County through the eyes of artist W.E. Cantelon!
